OT - Tucson area

2005-04-15 by Paul Roark

Thanks again to those who gave me the photo op tips for the Tucson area.
While the desert flowers and the Sonoran Desert Museum were highlights more
appropriate for color, I managed to capture a couple B&Ws. I've put the
first on my web page at www.PaulRoark.com <http://www.paulroark.com/>

Regards,

Paul

Guess you got out of there just in time. I imagine summer is arriving steadily
now. Tucson has only two seasons, heaven and hell.

Very nice pic of the mission Paul. I remember Tumacacori fondly.
Did you get over to the Center? See anything interesting? I'm wondering how
much digital they are showing these days. Back when I worked there, for the
most part the only color they would buy were dye transfer prints and
cibachromes, but the director would almost always be interested in nice
platiniums. A lot has changed since then. I hope you educated them about
carbon pigment. I'm hoping to take work there this fall.

John,

It was beautiful at the end of March.

Thanks.

I just checked out the public galleries and didn't ask for any of the boxed,
archived materials. It's clearly an impressive center for photography. One
gets the feeling there is some serious academic work being done there.

No, I didn't make any pitches.

Having been associated with the Center, you'll have better access to the
right people.

Paul,

That's a beautiful photograph.

I would LOVE to see a print!

Great photo! So I can visualize it better, what ink tone did you use for the print?

Thank you.

Of course, for the pictures I put on my Web site, I just put a small Jpeg of
the file, not a scan of a print. However, I think I like the medium warm
UT7 curve. I tried a carbon, but at least in the context of my house, where
most is neutral or cool, the pure carbon looked too brown. I think it'll
look good on Alpha (creamy, no OBAs) matte paper, and I'm going to see how
it holds up on a 22 x 28 Premium Semimatte.
