<<Has anyone used MyPublisher

to produce book/s of their B&W?
Can you vouch for quality of paper and printing ?
thanks,
Frank>>

Looking at their 20 page, full bleed, 12x16 with linen
binding for $60 USD it would almost be worth
it to try it once ..... it does seem that their
printing is aimed at color home snappies and wedding
photographers so I would have a concern about the
quality of their B/W printing.

I am currently trying out sharedink.com for their b/w printing.
They seem to be more color managed than any other online printer
that I have researched and they have a "professional photographer"
program that promises more quality control. With that program you
can order sample prints for $5.95 for the first one and $1 for each
additional. That way you can see the output before committing to
the entire book.

Having said that, I wasn't thrilled with the neutrality of the b/w
even though I know of others who have used the service and rave
about it. Their website states it is a CMYK process and that slight
color casts/shifts are possible. The first sample prints I got were
a good match to my calibrated monitor but they did have a slight
pink cast that might go unnoticed to anyone who wasn't a b/w
printer. I tried some toning (I print carbon sepia piezotones so
tried adding some warmth to the submitted images)in PS and ordered
new prints which were much better. I am waiting on my third set of
prints with "reduced ink coverage" which was suggested by
sharedink.com's owner to help reduce the color cast. The paper stock
is a nice heavyweight matte that is comparable to some of my nicer
photography books.

The photographer program has a FAQ section along with a forum for
asking questions. And the owner seems very helpful. You have to
signup to use the service. If you check that you were referred by
the "photographer program" you will then get an email explaining how
to signup for a free 45 day trial.

I am very interested to see if anyone else has used this or any
other online printer with better results.

thanks for this info - I will look into it.

I was worried about MyPublisher not having any profiles or col
management - just send 'em a jpeg in sRGB space and pray.
