Re: [Digital BW] Canon Digital Rebel XT - raw conversion

Re: [Digital BW] Canon Digital Rebel XT - raw conversion

Hi Paul,

Adobe Camera Raw 2.4 handles the .cr2 raw files from
the 20D (and 1Ds mkII). 3.0 is expected to add Rebel
XT support.

Breaze Browser Pro V1.1 and Bibble V4.2 claim to
support the Rebel XT raw format.

Good luck!

Re: [Digital BW] Canon Digital Rebel XT - raw conversion

I would also guess that Canon's own DPP will convert the new REbel XT RAWs (though I'm not sure if they have issued an upgrade). Its not particularly 'elegant', but in a pinch--its free and will probably work. I would recommend RSE--since most of what you do will be b/w, the color issue won't be a problem for you for the most part. I use C1, RSE (and have used all RAW converters over the years except Bibble) now--and for a very nice workflow, I really like RSE. Since I shoot color also--I'm hoping that Magne Nilsen, who does wonderful camera profiles for Capture One, will do some for RSE when it becomes a 'for pay' app (altho' the current RSE will always be 'free'--just not all the options of the one that will be charged for later).

Breezebrowser uses Canon's SDK so it processes better/faster, etc. than Canon's DPP and there is a 30 day demo (as C1 I think also--but not sure that its had an upgrade for Rebel XT yet).

Diane.

They're probably basically the same format, but each camera has its own
unique color "profile" that controls the conversion. It would be nice if you
could force it to use an existing camera's profile, when a new camera comes
out that the converter doesn't know about. We used to do that in the
original Adobe Camera Raw with the 10D, by hacking the file and changing
"D60" to "10D" with a hex editor. Perhaps you can do something like that
with the current ACR, as a temporary fix.

Hopefully, cameras will eventually provide the ability to write DNG files,
at least as an option, and this problem will go away once and for all.
