I'll second John's recommendation of the ArcaSwiss quick release system. I keep
a Really Right Stuff plate [BDReb] attached to my Digital Rebel all the time --
it's light, unobtrusive, and a perfect fit. I suggest asking both RRS and Kirk
if/when they will offer custom plates for the Digital Rebel XT.

The Arca-Swiss B1 ball head is beyond my budget. I have been happy with an old
Cambo ball head [CBH-3] with a Newtech clamp [ www.newtechmachineco.com ].

Thanks all for the info. I just downloaded the RawShooter.

I make my own right angle brackets and will probably attach quick release
plates. The camera is clearly designed for hand holding; dealing with the
buttons off the tripod probably makes the most sense.
