Questions about QuadToneRIP and Epson 4000 & 76000

2005-04-28 by Sid Ceaser

Greetings everyone. New user to the community.

I just installed QTR on my eMac this evening, and I'm using Photoshop
CS. I have two printers hooked up via USB: an Epson 4000, and an
Epson 7600. For the maiden voyage, I installed everything onto the
4000 to get a feeling for it. I installed both the GRAY-Lab,
GRAY-Photo and GRAY-Matte, as well as the RGB versions, to which I'm
still not quite clear which ones to use. For my trials, I've been
using GRAY-Lab and Gray-Photo.

Anyway, I went to Print with Preview, selecting Quadtone4000 for my
printer, and I tried selecting what I thought would work for the
profiles (cool netural tones), and I'm trying to print on Epson
Premium Luster Photo paper, which I did notice wasn't listed in the
4000 profiles that were installed (and could be chosen from in the
list). Each time I've tried to print something out, it seems as if
the blacks aren't printing, or aren't printing very well. After a few
tries with the Premium Luster paper, I tossed in a page of Enhanced
Matte, switched to "Matte Black" ink, and it gave me the same thing;
the blacks didn't look like they were being put down.

The FAQ that comes with the program didn't help me understand what
the
issue might be, so if anyone has an easier FAQ they could direct me
to, or has had any expirence using this RIP with an Epson 4000, it
would be great to hear any advice. I'm kinda scratching my head as to
how to get this program to work with my prints.

I tried posting to the QuadToneRIP community board, but they haven't
responded, so I'm thinking I said, or didn't say, something that
made them ignore me. I dunno.

Thanks guys. Looking forward to contributing what I can to this
community in the future.

Cheers,
