Is anyone using Eboni ink in their R1800?

Is anyone using Eboni ink in their R1800?

2005-04-30 by bradley_w01

I'm new to the board here. I'm considering upgrading my 1280 to the R1800 and would
like to try some black-only B/W printing with Eboni ink. I know there's mixed opinions on
black-only and I know members like Clayton Jones - whose website is wonderful, thank
you, Clayton! - have had success using Eboni in their 2200's.

Before getting in _too_ far over my head, I wanted to see if anyone out there is already
doing this?

If the R1800's driver is like my R800, I'm not sure it supports true
Black Only printing. There is a "monochrome" mode under PHotoEnhance
in the Epson driver, but I'm not sure that uses "only" black. There
is no "black ink" setting like with the 2200 or 4000, etc.

Hello Bradley,

Welcome to the forum, glad to have you join in. I think it has been
pretty well established that the 800 does not do BO printing, and
early reports, to the best of my knowledge, have confirmed that the
1800 is the same. It seems to be more of a consumer level machine
geared toward color printing on glossy paper. If you need to upgrade
the 1280 now, I recommend the 2200. If it can wait for a few months,
there's a new 2400 coming soon that may be even better. From the
information that's been released, it seems to be specifically designed
to satisfy the BW market. There has been some discussion of it here
over the past couple of days. It seems worth waiting for.

You're welcome, thanks for the kind words.
