I am just into digital and have 300d with elements. From what I hear
here I need to look at my printer more seriously. I have a canon i560.
To get the best out of black and white do I need quad tone. Could
someone point me in the right direction for introductory lessons into
background info on this? Thanks

If you do only 8x10, the Epson C86 is a terrific solution. For 13" paper
the 2200 is the best, with the 1280 and MIS UT2 inks being very popular. A
number of other 13" Epsons are also supported with MIS pigments.

Take a look at my information page at

Re: [Digital BW] quadtone

I'm just diving into QTR with a 2200 this weekend. I'm new to both,
and I imagine I'll finally dial in a few simple settings that "work for me"
(I'm not much of a paper/ink futzer). QTR setup, OOB presentation
and online help make it pretty easy to get going (QTR GUI on Windows
XP). Great job!!!!

But FWIW, just judging by initial print comparisons, the simple C86
+ MIS EZ ink set does a truly remarkable job out of the box. I print on
good old EEM and occasionally Scrapbook, warm M and Y with a neutral
C, and it just seems to do the trick. Epson or MIS should market the
printer/ink bundle together to the hobbyist market. It works just great.

I hope I can eventually get nice equivalent 11x14 and bigger prints with
QTR and the standard Epson inks without too much trouble. I have a
load of basic QTR questions, but I'll compose those in a more thoughtful
email sometime soon.
