9600 gives "command error"

I'm sure this info is burried in this forum but I haven't been able to locate it. I have installed QTR (Mac OS X, Epson 9600) and it works beautifully. But when I go to print from the Epson drivers I have to delete the QTR printer in the print center to make the Epson drivers work. Otherwise I get "command error" coming from the printer and it does nothing. How do you get the two to cooperate? What's the easy (quick) workaround. I frequently print on dealine and every bit counts.
