Photoshop CS/CS2 on ebay

Photoshop CS/CS2 on ebay

2005-05-06 by Tim Taylor

I have Photoshop 7 currently and want to upgrade to CS or CS2 but the
price new is outside my budget (given that I just purchased an Olympus
c-808 and Epson printer) so was wondering if anyone has ever purchased
software like this on Ebay? What should I ask the seller to insure I
reduce my exposure to problems?

My main purpose is to use the advanced functions to handle RAW images.

Thanks in advance for your help!

If the software has ever been loaded and registered on another computer, you
will not be able to use it. Be sure the seller has an unblemished rating on
eBay.

CS2 appears to have some significant advances for digital cameras. It would
be worth paying more for than CS.

Hi Tim,

The upgrade price (given that you have Version 7 already) for CS2 is
$149 - were you thinking that you had to buy the full version?

No, I knew I could upgrade. But just tight on money. Some ebay
prices for this were very cheap.

But I will re-think the cost again. Read a good article on the cost
of digital photography and the cost of the software was the smaller
cost vs printing, ink, paper, etc.

Thanks!

It costs the same to upgrade from 7 to CS2 or Photoshop 1 to CS 2...$150.00

No question, I spent more on ink for my 2200 in the first couple weeks I had
it than the Photoshop upgrade costs. Also saw an interesting analysis
recently showing that the additional cost of the 4000 vs the 2200 is more
than reocouped, and pretty quickly, through reduced ink costs.

I wonder who will buy the full version if you could buy 6.0 on ebay for
30/40$ and then upgrade it .
Talking about licenses Does anyone know if I could buy the upgrade in USA
and use it worldwide?.
For example buy the upgrade ( multilingua if it exist ) and use it in Spain.
Here it cost twice.

This should warn all thinking about getting it from certain eBay
sellers. Read deeply. I would not touch it.

This is the Full and Complete electronically purchased version download
legally from the adobe and professionally created on cd for future use.
The software is vaild for updates and downloads.. it does not qualify
for registration or technical support from adobe

Do you have a link to this analysis? Sounds like something I ought to
read and have on file for the next time I set out to upgrade a printer.

Thanks.

You got a newbie here who's considering the 2200 but held off to see what
the 1800 is about but now I hear the loud rumor of a 2200 upgrade (maybe
2400) so I'm waiting to see what gives there.

Your comment about the cost offset because of the price of inks inspired me
to see what I could find on the subject. It appears that the money saving
comes in because of the size of the print cartridge on the 4000 (110
-220ml) compared to the tiny cartridges on2200.. An economy of scale. This
is .50 a square foot for the 4000 as opposed to 2.00-2.50 a square foot for
the 2200. (
http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/epson4000.html#7600_4000_comparison ). I
had just been looking at a CIS for about $269 at Ink Republic another $100
would get you 8 - 100ml
inks (http://www.inkrepublic.com/ProductDetail.asp?item=2200 ) after the
initial purchase. Would this be the economy of scale the 4000 would give
you? By the way I'm rather mistrusting of such cheap ink prices.

At $239 is it possible to get a reliable CIS

This analysis may be based on the cost of prefilled carts. I use a
2200 with the new easy top fill carts and buy ink in 4 oz bottles, so
the smaller carts only mean I refill more often. These carts have
pretty much rendered CIS things obsolete unless you print in huge
volume. Before the new carts, refilling was a messy difficult affair,
and a CIS was more attractive. But they have their own share of
"challenges". The new carts are fantastic, make refilling a breeze,
and have opened the door to experimenting with different ink formulas.
It's a whole new world.

IMO, larger carts is not a good reason to buy a 4000. Not only more
money, they are huge (30" square) and heavy (90 lbs). Get one if you
want to make 16x20 prints. If 11x14 prints are enough, then a 4000
may be overkill.

Regards,
Clayton

Anyone buying from one of these scam artists is in for a rude surprise,
as CS2 *requires* internet or phone registration with Adobe or stops
working (after 30 days, I believe). It's like your mother told you...if
it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. ;-)

Another interesting note from the Photoshop Haven group is that
apparently if you bought (or buy) CS (full or upgrade) between March 5
and July 3 from a legit reseller and save your receipt, you can call
Adobe and get CS2 upgrade for the cost of shipping: ~$6

Sounds like a key generator to me. Considering the phone home portion
of the software, I wonder how they get around that.

Hi Clayton

Thanks for the reply..I also appreciate your website and the discussion
on BO printing. I'm going to have to read the section on profiles a few
more times for sure.

I saw the easy top refillable you mentioned some where but didn't
consider them since my one attempt at refiling many years ago left a
stain on my memory. If it is as easy as you say it would be far
preferable to the hoses and all of a CIS system since I won't be doing
any bulk printing at this point.

Are there any cartridges that you would recommend or stay away from? I
like the idea of clear cartridges.

Some more questions for you or anyone else that would like to comment:

When I print B&W I'm definitely starting with BO and the Eboni inks on
matte papers. Is there any problem using the Eboni ink when printing in
color though? Is it OK with ultra chrome or is that where a second black
ink comes into play? (I'm suspecting so).

Are the MIS 7600 inks really comparable to ultra chrome. I've heard
comments that any thing and Epson ink will mess up a printer and void a
warranty.

Thanks

Peace

Roy
