Yes, I'm afraid so. My paper is double sided matte, but I tried both
sides anyway. Equal bad result. I've tried different papers as well
(glossy also), with the same trouble as result. As long as I say "A4"
everything is great, even on those A3 sheets. The moment I mention A3
things go wrong. I don't understand; it doesn't make any sense to me.

Just for fun, why not try setting up a custom paper size rather than
just clicking on PS6's A3 option? Make the size the same, just run it
as a custom paper. I don't know if this will work, but who knows? 

I print A3 paper all the time w/PS6, with no troubles at all, using
Epson drivers.
