r2400 highlight point shift feature

Good morning. Can any of our expert r2400 members comment on the highlight point shift feature? Does it just lay down some ink anywhere where the value is 255 to get rid of bare paper and the resultant gloss drop out, OR does it shift the entire tonal range down? Has anyone done any tests? Thanks for any help available.
