Epson Glossy Photo Paper and MIS EZ inks

Epson Glossy Photo Paper and MIS EZ inks

2005-08-10 by dave0morrow

Last week I got a C86 with MIS EZ inks and I'm really gobsmacked with
the results. The fact
that it didnt cost much is the cherry on the cake!

I have Epson Enhanced Matte on order but so far but I'm rather
impressed with "Epson Photo
Paper" (aka Epson Glossy Photo Paper). I used to use this paper with
dye-based inks on my
older Epson and the prints faded badly after 2 years. I'd assume this
paper will fare better
with the MIS inks but are there any rough estimations of longevity?

Many thanks,

Dave.

Dave,

I have not fade tested the inks on Epson Glossy Photo Paper. However,
pigments are less affected by the paper than dyes, so I'd assume it'll be
quite fade resistant. (I actually recall that another party tested the
paper and found it to be excellent, but this is a vague memory.)

Be aware, however, that Epson Glossy Photo paper is acidic and is not
archival.

As an alternative, try Costco's Kirkland Glossy paper. While Costco may not
be in the UK, MIS re-sells it's paper. See
http://www.inksupply.com/paper.cfm#kpg. The Kirkland paper is acid free and
has a much better dmax than Epson Glossy Photo paper. (Try the MIS PKN
instead of standard MIS PK -- again, better dmax. If it is not sold in
carts, see http://www.inksupply.com/roarkslab.cfm.)

Have fun.

Re: [Digital BW] Epson Glossy Photo Paper and MIS EZ inks

Thanks for the info. Can I still use Eboni Matte Black with the Kirkland paper? I'm rather
pleased that there is little bronzing with the Epson Glossy Photo Paper with Eboni matte as
it allows me to switch between matte and glossy paper without worrying about switching
cartridges.

If I swapped in the MIS Photo Black rather than Eboni then what advantages does this have
on Glossy Paper? Is it less bronzing and/or higher dmax? If the dmax is the same and
bronzing isnt much of an issue then would I not be better sticking with Eboni matte? (I'll
not be using refills/CFS for a while - its taken me years to find a solution that works this
well so I'm reluctant to try anything different just yet!)

Many Thanks - I'm now getting a little confused!

Dave.

Dave,

> Can I still use Eboni Matte Black with the Kirkland paper?

No, I recommend Photo Black, the PKN is the neutral version. PKN has the
best dmax and does not have the "dusting" or rub-off problem of Eboni on
glossy paper.

I'm surprised you're finding Eboni works well on Glossy Photo Paper. But,
if it works for you, all the better.
