Piezo Update Question

Piezo Update Question

2001-12-15 by Paul Roark

Piezo users,

I use just 4-ink printers (1160 & 3000) and have the last Piezo update for
them, I think (513e). What does the version 6 add, if anything, that would
visibly improve output with my quads?

I don't use it so I don't know for sure, but didn't the v6 driver add a
16-bit pipeline through the driver?

Paul,

Well you get more paper profiles I believe, including EAM, (these
might have been added into the last version 5 update) the ability to
place the image on the paper exactly, and a "Quality" setting
of "Good", "Better" and "Best". On the 1280 this seems to correspond
to 720, 1440 and 2880 dpi, and on my 1200; ?, 720 and 1440dpi. So you
can make lower quality but fast printing proofs.

I really didn't see any difference in image quality with my 1200
between the two versions.

Yes, I think it did, but I'm not sure if there is a real visual improvement
or not. The Piezo ramps with the 8-bit system seem to have some vertical
lines in them in the shadows. If the 16 bit got rid of these, for example,
it would be worth getting.
