Trashing 1280 CFS for spongeless carts...would like to add "highlight" gray ink?

Trashing 1280 CFS for spongeless carts...would like to add "highlight" gray ink?

2005-08-24 by John Vitollo

This is probably directed at Paul...

My 1280's CFS has given me too many problems lately so I'm trashing it for the spongeless
carts. I'm using the UT 2 inkset using both QTR and Paul's curves but since I don't print much
Sepia I was thinking of replacing with a lighter "highlight" gray ink and have QTR take care of
it. But I'm not sure which ink one I should use?

I'm guessing below...which one or is there another I'm missing?

From the UT FS 1160 ink set....UTFS-4-Y ULTRATONE FS B&W INK - YELLOW POSITION

From the UT7 2200 ink set....UT7-4-LC Light Cyan Position - LC (light gray)

Many thanks,

John V.

Yes, that is a good way to get totally smooth highlights.

Yes, the UT-FS-Y is what I recommend. It's medium warm, but the paper tone
controls the highlights, so it works well.

The UT7-LC is a light, pure carbon ink that is warmer and denser than the
UT-FS-Y. The UT7-LC also works well, including with the driver sliders, but
it is the same density as the UT2-LM -- in fact, it's the same ink.

I've used them both. On some papers the FS-Y gives smoother results if the
print is inspected very close up. On others, I can't see any difference.
For printing with the Epson driver with only the sliders, the UT7-LC or
UT2-LM might be slightly better in that the ramp will be a bit closer to the
usual target.
