Hello, I would like to print both glossy and matte on a newly purchased C86 (being shipped as I write) using the UT inks. I understand that the recommended inksets are different for the two varieties. Can I swap cartridges out as I switch papers? I looked through the archives but couldn't find an answer to this question. Thanks, Mani Varadarajan

Mani, Yes, all you have to do to go from matte to gloss paper is switch the black cart from Eboni to Photo Black, or the neutral Photo Black called "PKN." My Readme at http://home1.gte.net/res09aij/C86-EZ-UT-Readme.htm might be helpful to you. Paul www.PaulRoark.com

Hi Mani (and everyone else - and thanks to the moderators for this forum). I'm also new here - it sounds like you (Mani) and I are in the same boat. I also have a new C-86 on the way, and a set of MIS 'E-Z' UT carts. I'm assuming you can remove and replace the two blacks as you change papers, I'm not sure. Do you remove the unused cartridge and wrap it in gladwrap and store it upside-down, for example(?) I'm hoping it will go right back in and re-seal without a problem. I'm glad for this site, though so far to me it looks like the content is a bit out of the depth of digital B&W beginners. Not for long, I hope. Thanks guys. Paul, Thanks for the prompt reply. Can these cartridges be readily swapped on the fly, i.e., can I leave an open cartridge sitting around while its replacement for the other paper type is installed, and vice versa? --- In DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com, "Paul Roark" <paul.roark@v...> wrote: > Mani, > > Yes, all you have to do to go from matte to gloss paper is switch the black > cart from Eboni to Photo Black, or the neutral Photo Black called "PKN." > > My Readme at http://home1.gte.net/res09aij/C86-EZ-UT-Readme.htm might be > helpful to you. > > Paul > www.PaulRoark.com > > > > -----Original Message----- > > From: DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com > > [mailto:DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of Mani > > Varadarajan > > Sent: Wednesday, October 05, 2005 5:31 PM > > To: DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint@yahoogroups.com > > Subject: [Digital BW] Glossy + Matte on the C86 > > > > Hello, > > > > I would like to print both glossy and matte on a newly purchased > > C86 (being shipped as I write) using the UT inks. Mani, > ... Can these cartridges be readily swapped > on the fly, i.e., can I leave an open cartridge sitting around > while its replacement for the other paper type is installed, > and vice versa? Yes, I do it all the time. If one is going to be out of the printer for long I use a syringe full or water to rinse the outlet. In any case I always put a piece of tape over the outlet. What I'm afraid of is ink drying and getting into the printer. Paul www.PaulRoark.com

You can switch from Eboni matte black to Photo Black for glossy paper, and the other way around, without any problems. > Do you remove the unused cartridge and wrap it in > gladwrap and store it upside-down, for example(?) I fold one end of the tape onto itself so that it will be easy to remove the tape before re-installing the cart. Store them in the same position they'd be in the printer -- outlet down.
