Hello Woody and everyone else.  It's nice to see talk about NK7, no one was 
talking about it before. Anyway, Woody you mentioned you use Eboni Black. 
I'm thinking of substituting Eboni as the main black in K7, and 
relinierizing of corse with QTR. What do you think about that idea??? I've 
never used any of Paul's inks before. I'm a little concerned about mixing 
inks with different flow properties. The NK7's are indeed "slippery" and the 
only time I've ever had a bad nozzle check is when I'm out of ink. The Dmax 
from Eboni (it said 1.75 on PhotoRag on the MIS webpage) would make K7 
really be the ultimate in mono inkjet printing. But then there is also the 
issue of tone. Do you think introducing Eboni Black would effect the 
neutrality?Any help on this would be great.

P.S;    Oh and by the way I've also been trying to get a better Dmax via QTR 
using the "ink limits" and "gamma" adjustments. No real difference so far, 
but I've found that pumping a good amount of contrast to my image in PS gets 
an acceptable Dmax. It's fiddly though and as you know the more work you 
have to do in PS the more destructive to the file/image - so I don't like 
doing that. How are you going with it?

I would agree. I have been using K7 for about two
weeks and the most important failing for me is D Max.
The darkest step on the 21 step file measures 1.4 on
Photo Rag 308 which is rather pathetic compared to
every other ink I use. (UC, Eboni etc)

I must admit though that there is very nice
transitions from step to step with the result of a
finely graded tonality which is very pleasant to see.

I am going to keep working on the DMax issue by
playing with the QTR controls but for now K7 is simply
experimental for me.

black) and the carbon sepia inks in a dual quad setup

That does not sound like a very good idea.
With a K7 purchase, you are getting inks that were painstakingly formulated
to work together in a 7-color partition, as well as smooth curves for a
number of papers.
Even if you liked the look of Eboni with the 6 other grays, you would have a
very hard time generating curves as smooth as what comes with K7.  You might
be better off working with your StudioPrint setup than trying to improve K7.
