Re-arranging the 7600
2005-11-01 by Steven Karafyllakis
Hi All; Well, it seems I get to dedicate my 7600 to B&W only, so I'd like to get some advice/opinions on ink combinations. What I need to do: Print matte from neutral to warm/sepia tonal range; Print on RC, semi-matte, semi-gloss primarily, with same tonal range as above. I don't need cold tone printing. I want both MK and PK installed simultaneously, so a straight UT-7 setup won't work. I also want the option of a K3 mode for extra smoothness where appropriate. This is what I'm considering at the moment: Basic setup: Eboni, UT7 Cyan, UT7 L Cyan, and UT7 yellow, for warm/sepia. Eboni with FS-Quad-Cyan and FS-Quad-Magenta will give me neutral if the MIS swab tests are accurate. The addition of PKN will give me RC printing of either warm or neutral tones. I'm assuming that all of MIS' inks are now using the new base, including the FS quadtone sets; if anyone knows or suspects otherwise, please let me know! Also: the MIS swab patches make the FS inks look very neutral, which is what I want. Has anybody used them since the base change, and are they in fact neutral? Paul had anticipated that glop would no longer be needed with the new base; Has that in fact turned out to be the case? Any and all feedback/advice appreciated. I need to get this right the first time, as I've totally lost my patience with the flushing cleaning, etc. of the wide format machines. Steve Karafyllakis
