Quadtone Calibration Questions

Quadtone Calibration Questions

2002-01-01 by Thomas Fors

I've been interested in printing with quadtone ink sets for some time now,
and I'm looking at experimenting with it for a project at school.
Although I like warmtone prints, I don't like it for everything, and since
I'll be displaying silver gelatine prints next to the inkjet prints, I've
chosen the MIS VM-quads in order to get a neutral tone.

Right now, my setup is:
Nikon LS-4000 film scanner
Photoshop 6
NEC LCD Display
Epson 860

I'd like to calibrate my whole setup, so I'm looking at adding an Epson
2450 scanner and MonacoEzColor calibration software. I like the monaco
software because it can do everything from the scanners to the monitor to
the printers (I'll probably add an Epson 1280 at some point as well), but
I understand that the MonacoSENSOR doesn't support LCD monitors.

Can I simply use another colorimeter that supports LCDs with the Monaco
software? Can someone recommend one or recommend other software that I
can use to calibrate my setup? Can the Monaco software be used to
generate curves for the quadtone inks on different papers/printers or will
it only work for full color gammut inks?

Thanks!
