Quick Question on BO printing on Epson 4000

Quick Question on BO printing on Epson 4000

2006-01-04 by sloth4189

Can I install only the MIS Eboni cart in place of the Matte
Ultrachrome or do I need to replace the light black as well with the
MIS K7 equivelant ?

I guess what I am saying is, in Black only print mode on matte paper
using the Epson stock driver (Win XP), is the printer using ONLY the
matte black cart or both the matte black AND the light black ?

Thanks

Hi;

It uses only the matte black, that's normal for all the Epsons that
will allow BO. You can get 2K printing out of it with QTR, and the
difference in smoothnes is substantial, though of course more of a
learning curve.

Only the Black not the light black. See clayto Jones
FAQ.

Steve (and Michael):

Thanks for that info.
On the other side of the coin, when printing color on the 4000 using
the stock Epson (WinXP) driver, are only the color inks used or are
the black inks used as well, and if so, how does the MIS Eboni ink
mix with the standard Epson UltraChromes ?

Thanks again.

I went through a similar transition with my 7600 and the standard UC
inks; I don't remember there being any major problem, but perhaps
someone else has more recent experience to relate? I'm now using the
MIS Pro inks which are much better than the old UC inks: better
color gamut, and almost non-existent bronzing on RC papers-not to
mention a great deal cheaper. Highly recommended!

Are you using custom profiles for your color printing with the MIS Pro
inks? I've thought about giving them a go with my 2200, but I hesitate
because I'm not sure that I'd have to get a whole new set of profiles.

I talked to MIS the other day about this and they said you can use
Epson profiles but be warned they will probably not be accurate.
I would need 12 color and 4-5 QTR profiles, so its out of the question
for me... Supposedly they will make profiles in the fuure but he said
it was at least a year away... Too bad.

There's at least one app that I'm aware of that allows you to edit
standard icc profiles. I've never tried it, but last time I checked
they had a demo version:
http://www.antelligent.com/pages/ps_plugins.html

It costs $75.00, quite reasonable if it works well

At least an interesting price.

Does Doctor Pro edit standard ICC profiles or only the
Colorvision profiles?

Kodak Custom Color Tools edits standard profiles, input,
output, monitor, abstract, and in both directions: to device
and to PCS. It is expensive. Very good program though.

I found that I needed profiles for more accurate rendition of
sandstones. The profile I ordered from a profiler in the UK is in my
Inbox and I hope to try it at the weekend.
