Quadtone print show by Nubar Alexanian north of Boston, MA

Quadtone print show by Nubar Alexanian north of Boston, MA

2002-01-06 by David J. Bookbinder

I've been lurking on this list for a while and just wanted to let those of you who are in the Boston, MA area know that a quite amazing show of large panorama photographs made using MIS Quadtone inks on an Epson 3000 is on display at the Gloucester, MA, Cape Ann Historical Society. The photographer, Nubar Alexanian, is a well-known documentary photographer and photojournalist. This show is of Gloucester, where he has lived for many years. Many of these prints are about 1.5 x 4.5 feet (I don't know the 3000's maximum print dimensions and didn't measure these prints) and are, to my eye, indistinguishable from prints made in a darkroom. No, I take that back. Because they are absolutely sharp out to the edges, with no visible dot patterns (and, in some cases, hardly any visible grain), the inkjet prints are actually better-looking than the few enlarger-generated prints in the show.
Anyway, it's quite a good show for anyone in the area as well as, for me, a testament to the technology, which at some point I'm sure I'll be trying.
