Is anyone using MIS K4 inks for the R2400?

Hello,

Is anyone using the MIS K4 inks for the R2400? How do you like them?
How do you feel they compare to the K3 inks? Do you use the CFS or
carts?

Thanks

Hi

Yep. I'm using MIS K4 inks in my 2400. I use the easyfill carts.
Problems so far are nil. The inks are very good. I only use photo black
and mainly print on satin papers such as Ilford Smooth pearl for B&W
and Olmec Satin for colour. On satin/pearl papers I cannot really tell
the difference between OEM inks and MIS. On glossy media the OEM inks
are slightly better because they show no signs of bronzing whereas the
MIS inks show just a little. When you compare the cost the MIS inks win
and I am delighted with the results. I have not tried them on art
papers using mK black so cannot comment. Hope this helps.

Regards Peter.

I am--I am using the carts (I got a prefilled set, and i have the 4 oz
replacements--really easy to refill, though the plug is curiously
surrounded by a lip, making it harder to remove than the 1280
spongeless carts)

I have only had them a couple of weeks, just long enough to make a
color profile for PGPP and do some client work. Color (with the
profile) is as good as K3, though there is a bit more gloss differential
then with the K3 on glossy. I suspect that the profiles posted are not
usable on the the 2400. I have not had time to check the usability of
the ABW settings, or see if QTR will be necessary.

Let me know (on or off list) if you have further questions.

Yay, someone is using it. Thanks for replying Matt. That's too bad
to hear there is more bronzing with the K4 inks in color. Do you
think you just need to fine tune your profile/printing workflow?

I'll be very interested to know what you think after trying out some
B&W with the ABW settings. I won't be able to afford to make my own
profiles at the moment, so if I start to use the K4 inks I need to
find profiles online.

I'm leaning towards the CFS right now. I've never owned/used one, but
it seems a little easier now than those I saw in the past. I wonder
if spongeless carts will be easier though. Did you consider the CFS?

Why aren't more using this inkset? The R2400 has been a good seller,
and Eboni is also popular...is this inkset very very new?

Thanks again for the info Matt, as you continue to use the K4 inks I'd
like to hear your ongoing experiences.

Guhan

I'm using MIS K4 in my 2400 and have icc profiles for use with ABW
mode. Prints are excellent with no bronzing or gloss diff. Profiles
are available here:

Re: [Digital BW] Is anyone using MIS K4 inks for the R2400?

I'm using the spongeless cartridges and the K4 inks. The big cosideration
between going spongeless carts verses a CFS unit is the types of paper to be
used. If you will be switching back and forth between the Photo black and Matte
black inks, the spongeless carts are the way to go. If you print on matte papers
only, or if you print on glossy, luster, or semi-gloss papers exclusively, CFS
units are great. The spongeless cartridge system works very well. I have had
no glitches. The K4 inks are exceptional. Even the Epson canned profile for
Velvet Fine works well. I have made a custom profile and it is better though.
The black & white prints are exceptional. The black & white prints on the 2400
are great. The print driver offers a ton of control.

Thanks a lot Carl, do you know where I might be able to find profiles
for EEM, VFA, Kayenta or Silver Rag?

Thanks again

Thanks Peter, can you tell me what profiles you are using (your own?)

Your experience with bronzing is consistent with Carl on glossy
papers. What about the fade resistance/archival quality compared to
the K3 inks?

And the price certainly is great. I just don't want to have to
reprint due to fading.

I'm referring to colour photos. For B&W and I assume I'd need to use
a RIP to only use the Eboni in BO fashion for best archival quality.

Thanks again

Re: Is anyone using MIS K4 inks for the R2400?

2006-03-20 by bwbonkers

I use my own custom made profiles using an EyeOne. For BW I use the ABW mode in the
Epson driver. Again I profile using QTR create ICC program that's part of QTR. I nolonger
use a RIP. Not sure about BO. As far as fading goes I cannot really comment as I have not
done any tests. I'm sure others in the group more qualified than me could help here.

If you are not sure then maybe its worth just buying a set of carts to try. The ink is
compatable with Epsons so its easy to switch back if you don't like what you see. Could be
wrong here but I think the prefilled MIS carts are the clear easyfill type carts so are
refillable. Worth checking with MIS.

Rggards Peter.
