1160 Printer Driver Controls & Other Puzzlements

1160 Printer Driver Controls & Other Puzzlements

2002-01-14 by JimD

I've been trying the MIS FS inks using the Woolf workflow.
Thus far, I'm getting much better results than I got with the
older MIS quads and the Brandin workflow.

Here's one of my puzzlements:
The illustration on the MIS www site for the Woolf flow
http://www.inksupply.com/index.cfm?source=html/workflow_woolf2.html
shows a screen shot of the 1160 driver. In that illustration
there is box to set gamma for the printer.

Does the 1160 driver (Wintel) have a gamma setting?

Mine doesn't.
Next I'm going to try the Paul Roark VM workflow.
One thing's for sure I think I'm going to have to have a
CIS. Getting this stuff dialed in is taking me a fair
amount of testing. I'm starting to think my 1160 is
a bit sketchy as I've had pretty frequent but clearable
clogs for almost all of the bw stuff I've done with it.
I use a 1270 and Epson OEM materials and can recall only
one clog in over two years of use.

Are clogs common with the BW materials?

Cheers,
JimD

Jim-

"Clogs happen..."

But most of us have been quite clog free with the MIS inks. Could be
that you have air in the carts... If they sit for a few days after
being installed, that will usually go away.

My 1160 (Mac) doesn't.

As for clogs, I get them fairly often, as well as "ink low" warning
lights. I have the MIS CIS, and I suspect that tension from the
tubes is pulling the cartridges up (no clamps) and allowing air
into the head. Right now, the black head is dead, and I'm waiting
for new cartridges to arrive so I can prime the head again and
reinstall the CIS. If you get a CIS, I suggest you tape the
cartridges firmly in place. The little friction pads simply don't cut
it.
