Ink Question ...

Ink Question ...

2006-05-11 by roschko_leolevin

Hi,
... yes, an other "inkquestion".
I'm looking for "my" BW ink system with Epson Stylus Pro 7600. The
last three month, I think, I did nothing else than surfing thru the
internet and looking for the perfect ink.
So, the result? I'm totally confused and have no Idea what system
would be the best for me. The entire Manufacturer say that their
system is the world best you can get.
During my web research I found 5 different Inks. Maybe there are a
couple more then 5.

Sundanse Inks (also for 7600)
GQ Generation QuadBlack (not for 7600)
Piezography K7 (for 7600)
Lyson Quad Black (not for 7600)
MIS UT7 (for 7600)

As there are some inks not available for my 7600 Epson, I think I
want to decide between the Piezography and MIS Products.

The Pro of MIS is that they are for both, Matte and Glossy Paper,
right?

Maybe somebody could help me in this decision?
Please tell me your experiences with you system, so that I can
find "my perfect BW ink" :-)

Cheers

Florian

You deserved more responce than you've so far recieved... and you've
come to the right place.
I think the problem is that things are much better today than they
were even 2 years ago, many of these systems now work very well, and
users are settled in with little testing of alternatives. That is
certainly my situation, things reached a point with the systems that
interest me, and the focus turns towards content and mastering craft,
instead of the particular products. There was a time when many of us
tried everything available just to find anything that might work for
us. So most of us can not compare many of these solutions against each
other, as we are no longer knowledable about available options,
certainly my case.
The only onelisted I would stay away from is the Lyson, if you search
here you'll see much similar advice.
I can vouch for the Peizotone inksets in a 9600, you have the option
of using two different tints with a shared K and as a result some hue
options. Or the K7 set which is neutral with little hue options beyond
paper base, but extraordinarily smooth and photographic.
The others I have not tried and I hope users speak up for them, they
seem to have solid user bases.

[Digital BW] Mat question

2006-05-12 by Debbi

What is your favorite color mat for a black & white print? My obvious
answer is black, but is that a good choice?
Thanks,

Black mats remind me of 1970's ad layouts pasted up.
If you go to any museum or gallery, the majority of black and white
prints are matted with either white or off-white (many shades of
egg). Not that there are any rules, it is totally up to the artist/
framer.

I like the Exeter off-white mat boards from Light Impressions for B/W
prints. You can get free samples for this and there other mat boards
they supply.

The following link is for large sheets but they also sell other sizes.
