Changing from matt black to photo black on R2400

Changing from matt black to photo black on R2400

2006-05-11 by john794552

I am needing to change from matt black to photo black ink cartridges
on my R2400, in order to try printing some digital negatives.
My query is whether I can just swop them back when I need matt black
again? Do I need to somehow seal up the matt black cartridge while it
is out of the printer, or does it seal itself? I assume they must be
interchangeable as required, and not to be ditched once removed.
Many thanks
John Fontana

-I always seal the cartridge in an air tight baggie with the dispenser
portion titled down.

John, the black carts are interchangeable and reusable. However, your
printer will go through a charging cycle of all inks when you change
carts. While I have never seen the definitive figures, I always figure
that this process uses around 10% of the ink in each cart. I change
the blacks as infrequently as possible and ususally have a bunch of
images to print when I do. No need to seal the carts, but storing them
in the same position as when installed is a good idea

For what it is worth, in post
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint/message/77165,
Nick H. quoted the following information from his copy of the R2400 service
manual:

"Cartridge replacement: 0.386 gram per color"

He also quoted the other figures for the cleaning cycles.

Thanks for the replies. New cartridge installed, and one step further
up on the steep learning curve of producing digital negatives
Cheers
