Hi Tom...

Sounds like a wonderful trip!

I lived in Las Vegas for 20 years. Traveled to Death Valley a lot. The best time is in the early spring when the flowers are blooming...however October will be awesome too!

I vote for both ends of the day...for sure. However, all day long there will be good opportunity depending on where you are and which way you look. I love the desert. It's the world naked!

I look forward to seeing an image or two from your journey.

Subject: [Digital BW] OT - October shoot in Kelso Dune (Mojave Nat Preserve)???

  Hi-

I'm planning a trip to the Kelso Dunes in Majave National Preserve in
  mid to late October.

Any reasons why this might not be a good time of year to go there?

Any advice on time of day to shoot the dune? Sunrise or sunset? or
  both?

Any "secret" spots to get great shots from ????

  Thanks,

  Tom O'Connell

Hello Tom, I know the Kelso area well. It will prob be hot so bring a hat and
lots of water. Sunrise and sunset are good times. You have to find your own
secret places out there. Make sure that you visit the town of Kelso, theres an
old house there that is very interesting. If you look at my site there are
photos there of the house.SILVERWORKS IMAGING . I go there a lot and its a great
place. It will be hot tho. If you drive down the train tracks to the south
of the town of kelso just past the new visitors center in Kelso, there is an
old cemetary thats really neat. Its about a 1/4 mi down along the row of
trees.
Feel free to contact me if you have questions. Oh yes, make sure your car is
in good shape. Have a good time there. Steve
