Ink Configuration certainly works, because I use it sometimes to increase ink
density for digital negatives on Pictorico OHP film. I have measured the
increase in density and it is quite a bit if you take it from neutral "0" to
"+50", (say from Log 2.5 to Log 4.0 UV transmission density) though on current
Pictorico OHP film, after about +15 you start to get puddling with the R2400.

I am wondering if some other setting you are using is negating the Ink
Configuration setting. I haven't tried it, but could it be that the special B&W
printing feature negates this, since you have some other similar controls in the
B&W setup?

I don't get it. One of the things that Clayton has done is to simplify the
workflow for the 2400. Why don't you just print an image (a photograph) and
see what it looks like. If you are not careful, you will be overtaken by
paralysis by analysis.

Hi All:

I have run across a perplexing problem while printing B&W with my
Epson R2400 printer. I am using Clayton Jones' recommended settings
(Paper Type : Velvet FIne Art; Quality:Best Photo; Print Option :
High Speed; COlor Management: Advanced B&W; Ink Config: -5% Color
Density; TOne: Light; Printer Profile: No Color Management; Image
Profile: Dot Gain 20%; 16 bit Greyscale; 720 dpi; Print COlor:
Neutral). I ran a test print of a 21 step steptablet and wanted to
further reduce the ink loading. I reduced the Ink Configuration to -
10% from -5 % and there was no observed change in ink density on a
testprint. I then tried -15%, - 25%, and all the way down to - 50%
on the color density slider with the same results - no observable
reduction in ink density! Minus 50&% is all the lower the slider
goes.

I contacted Epson tech support and their reply was "The effect is
very slight and can be hard to see. Try adjusting it down even
further, or adjust in PhotoShop to reduce the amount of
saturation/black levels." So much for tech support!

Has anyone out there ran into this problem - the non-working color
density slider under Ink Configuration in the Epson printer driver
with Print with Preview out of PS CS2 using a R2400?

Thanks in advance,

TK Thompson
