1280 w/ UT2 intermittent overspray problem

My troublesome 1280 is now sometimes overspraying. This is particularly obvious when printing a purge pattern. The problem is intermittent. This printer is only about 16 months old and has seen only light to moderate use. Epson replaced the print head about seven months ago. My first 1280 worked great for four years with moderate use. This silver version has not been the equal of that first 1280. I seem to recall, based on comments here, that this problem is indicative of a problem that's not worth repairing. Thoughts anyone?
