Hahnemuhle FineArt Pearl - glossy or matte black?

Hahnemuhle FineArt Pearl - glossy or matte black?

2006-08-06 by David Meddings

Hi, I've received some samples of Hahnemuhle FAP and want to make some
profiles for QTR with this paper.

I'm using the UT-7 inkset.

One thing I'm not sure of despite checking back over web based stuff
is whether the paper itself is designed for matte (e.g. Eboni), or
glossy (I have both the MIS PK and PKN inks).

Can anyone fill me in on what the best suited inks are? Also if glossy
inks are better I'd like to hear whether any treatment such as GLOP is
needed or desirable (I have that as well).

Last question - any curves that are a good starting point in QTR for
profiling this paper?

Thanks,

David Meddings

Hi David,

I think it uses glossy inks. With the UT7 inkset C and M can serve as
glossy inks. You can try to use these curves as a starting point:

I haven't tried FAP myself though, so I can't guarantee good results.

Versions with GLOP included. On EPSG GLOP makes a visible difference. On
DaVinci Fibre Gloss I could hardly tell it was there, so it varies from
paper to paper.

Just remove the previous linearization data and relinearize. If the tonal
range is very different on FAP you might want to tweak shadow, highlight
and gamma a little before linearizing.

Thanks Daniel,

Just back from a quick trip and happy to see an answer on my
question. Haven't had the time of day to devote to curves but hope
to squeeze it in as I can. Will check out the link you give when I
can and see how it goes.

Thanks again,

David
