Epson R200 vs R220: in Black Only mode, which printer does matt, glossy, or both

Epson R200 vs R220: in Black Only mode, which printer does matt, glossy, or both

2006-08-14 by paulmwhiting

I'd like to try Black Only printing on both kinds of paper, before I
plunge into hextone printing ... but I wonder if the R220 does both
matt and glossy. I'm told the 220 will only do BO in matt, not glossy.
Will the R200 do both? I was told in an e-mail that the R220 will not
do glossy but I'd like to throw my question out to the group just to be
sure. (I'm not questioning the sender of that e-mail... but in the
confusion of getting my new membership up and running in this group I
want to be sure... can't find that e-mail!)

I realize there are two BO carts available from MIS...one for matt and
one for gloss. But my question centers around the Epson driver, and
which paper(s) the driver menu allows.

TIA all,

Paul

The 220 and 200 drivers both will print BO on glossy as long as RPM (highest
resolution) is not selected. What they call "Best Photo" (which is the
highest matte resolution) works on gloss BO, and it may be good enough for
you - or not. It depends on the printer, photo, and how critical the viewer
is.

Thanks, Paul,

Let me probe a little more... how about the paper choice menu... does
the 220 show both gloss and matt? (looks like the title to my thread
got cut off at the end but it all shows up once the conversation is
opened up).

Thanks!

Paul
