Digital BW, The Print

I am interested to know what people use for proofing prints that will 
be printed on Silver Rag and Innova F Type Gloss?  Using ICC profiles 
it is clearly possible to soft proof on screen, however I find that 
this is no substitute for a real print.  Silver Rag and Innova F Type 
Gloss are however fairly expensive papers so I would prefer to proof on 
something else.  Any suggestions?

I also buy some 8 1/2 x 11, and cut them into 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 and print on 
them first. While it won't give you the full picture, being smaller, it 
should give you a good idea how it looks.

I use Kirkland glossy paper.  $18 for 125 sheets; on line at Costco even for
non-members (for a bit more).
