Digital BW, The Print

I have been reading Clayton Jones article on b/w printing with the 
Epson 2400 and its Advanced Black/White (ABW). He prints thru 
Photoshop using grayscale images.

I have been using an Epson 2200 and printing with Qimage and QTR.  I'm 
thinking of upgrading to the 2400.

Does anyone have any experience printing with Qimage and the 2400 
using the ABW setting (without QTR)? Does the fact that Qimage 
converts grayscale images to rgb have any impact on the results?
