So at this point I'm going to stay with and work with the K7's for a
while (the ink changeover wasn't *that* easy). The K7 prints look
excellent alone or compared to a silver print, but not compared to a
K3 print.

Good wishes,
Walt

My solution was to run NK 7 inks in a 4000, and keep the 4800 for ABW
printing. There are significant differences and advantages to both systems. I'm
going to use NK 7 split tone inks in my 2200 as well.

Richard-

So, I'm wondering what you're going to do with the K3's in the 4800,
i.e. what are you going to use for what?

Best,
Walt

It's the paper choices that matter. As you mentioned, VFA and SFA are really
great papers. I'm not a HPR fan really... I use a lot of Inkpress warm and
cool tone Photo Rag.
When you are printing files that go back....mine start in 1963... you have a
wide variety of print quality for both wet and digital darkroom work.
Remember when we were looking for papers that would give a negative more oomph... or
less? It's the same with digital. I am fortunate to be able to afford as
many printers as I can fit in my den (those Soc. Security checks come in handy),
so in addition to those mentioned, I am running a 7600 (Atkinson profiles
with PK) and a 7500 for MK color. They all give you a different look, and
enable you to bring out the best in an image with the paper that best fits what
you're after. I'm looking forward to split tone printing when I get the 2200 up
and running.
I think you would do better to keep your 4800 as K 3 and pick up a used 4000
or 2200 for NK 7. My 2 cents.

PS. Try the Inkpress.
