OT (sort of) - Create_RGB_ICC error message?

2006-10-30 by Richard Cooke

Hi Folks,

I posted this to the QTR group but so far no takers.

I'm trying my first attempt at using Roy's Create_RGB_ICC program and I'm
getting the following error message:

WARNING: None of the RGB curves are in ascending order.
Cannot make the Soft Proofing side of profile.

I'm following Paul Roark's instructions on how to "Embedding Photoshop
Curves in ICCs". I'm on a PC (XP) and using CS2. Does anybody have
any ideas on what I've done wrong?

Thanks,

For soft proofing to work with the system, at least one of the RGB curves
must go from the bottom corner to the top one with no flat spots and no
reverse slopes. When I made the curves for most of the papers originally,
this was not a concern. So, many or my older curves will generate this
message.

The ICCs will still work fine for printing. They will not, however, work
for soft proofing. Frankly, I don't do soft proofing with B&W because the
working space and print are already matched with the ICC linearization. So,
the soft proofing is just for the tones. I don't see much need for that in
B&W, and my monitor is probably not good enough to show the subtle tones I
usually am working with anyway. So, I just ignore the error message.
