Hello All, I can offer some details on the production of these prints. The paper is Hahnemuhle Photo Rag 308: the inks are Cone Warm Neutral: and most were printed on Epson 9000. Martson/Hill is located in New Haven, CT. Regards, Tom Patsenka

Martson/Hill must be a very quiet operation. I have been in business in Connecticut (just 45 minutes from where they are located) for 20 years and I have never heard of them. Has anyone else? Mark

I guess this explains that: In 1972 he met Walker Evans and worked under his direction, making prints from Evans negatives. After Evans death, Martson continued to print for the Evans estate. Any idea if they are/were connected with Yale? I thought that is who owned Evan's negs. Thanks Tom. That makes sense. I would have given Cone credit for the process, but then that's just me. It is a pretty big deal actually. Only the second large project of this kind that I'm aware of editioning a major historic figure's work this way. I'm sure they were nicely done. They would have to be. Just goes to show you what you can do with an old used 9000 and some good inks. I've got the new K6 channel warm set on the way to me now. I can't believe I missed that show. Mark, it looks like these guys set up this operation specifically to market the Evans prints. There is no evidence of anything else done in the past on that website. Aren't they connected to Yale as professors or adjunct teachers or something? Hill was the fist head of the photo program at Yale after Evans died later replaced by Papageorge, the historian/photographer that has ruled the program since the 70's. http://www.tfaoi.com/aa/6aa/6aa393.htm You also have to realize that Evans is more than just an alumi from Yale, he is a god there, THE god actually. I think he would find it amusing since he was pretty much a bohemian anti-establishment kind of figure. The entire program is based on his art documentary aesthetic. I believe he was only there for 2 years at the end of his life. Now I hear they are having students do a lot of video. How's that for keeping the pure reportage tradion alive. Now they're competing with internet websites. But I guess there is nothing wrong with that (for academics). John
