QTR curves & profiles

QTR curves & profiles

2006-12-10 by Richard Smallfield

Hi,
about a year ago I tried making profiles for QTR for my 2100 with my scanner and the results were terrible. I can't afford PrintFix Pro - not until I can sell more work.
For colour printing it's possible to send off test prints to various places to get custom profiles made (my paper vendor does it for free). With a RIP it is much more complex and I wondered if anyone is offering the service of remotely making custom curves and profiles for QTR.

I could always do RGB prints with the custom profiles using the Epson driver, but under fluorescent light they go noticeably magenta and QTR is so much better at reducing metamerism - so that's the way I want to keep printing.

thanks,
Richard

I used non- linearised QTR curves for over a year with fairly good
results; then I got PFP 1.1 and the spectro, and the results were
worse, not better. So I started just plugging in the nearest applicable
set of numbers from Tom Moore's 'Ideal Densities' charts. I'm now
getting the best results I've ever gotten with QTR, with a very smooth
ramp and visible tonal separation all the way down to black. I'm on a
PC, I don't even know if this is possible with QTR on the Mac version,
but if it is you should try it.

Thanks a lot for that - I'll look it up. What ink and paper combination are you using?

I'm using UC plus HPR308, Epson Velvet or Moab Entrada Bright.

I'm using either a 7600 with MIS Pro inks and HPR308 or William
Turner, or (my main workhorse) an R1800 with MIS K4 inks with LK and
LLK in the gloss and red positions respectively. And the same papers,
and quite a few RC experiments...

Steve,
Don't know if this will help you, but PFP has been updated(this
weekend) to 2.0 and has some things for B&W.
Also, have you checked Keith Coopers site:
http://northlight-images.co.uk/article_pages/printfix_pro_for_bw.html
Hope this helps!

Thanks.

See pages 25-26 of the QTR User's Guide by Tom Moore. This is part
of the program download and should be in the QTR folder as a Pdf
document.
