Photo Rag Pearl

2006-12-21 by zonepeter

On another forum, there has been some discussion of a new Hahnemule
Photo Rag Pearl. There is a brief page about it on the Hahnemule site.
They say it was on display at Photo Expo. Did anyone see it? Any
comments?

They (Hahnemule) describe it as "natural white, pure cotton rag paper,
with the fine Photo Rag surface and the treasured Pearl coating"

They say they are going to release it early in 2007.

I bought a box of 50 sheets FineArt Pearl two weeks ago from the Calumet store in San
Francisco, is that what you are talking about?

I had the same question, but no. After quite some searching at the
Hahnemule site I found a press release on the Photo Rag Pearl. What I
get from it is that is what says: Photo Rag (so a cotton paper unlike
the fine art pearl) with a Pearl coating on it. Sounds I like to try
it...

Just as I have settled on Hahnemuhle Fine Art Pearl as the paper for right now, I see ads for Photo Rag Pearl. How do these two papers compare? Many thanks. JNW

I would say the biggest difference is that the PhotoRag Pearl has no
OBAs. It is a warmer paper. It also has a different surface.
Perhaps a little more texture, like Photorag. To my eye the coating
looks like the Fine Art Pearl, which means the stipple is still there.

hi - Id add that though the stipple is there, it is less
objectionable, I guess just due to the paper texture, to me HPR pearl
scores a bit higher than the fine art
