Clogs & VM

2002-01-24 by fotos@eunet.at

Hello,

I am just starting to use an 1200 Epson (bought at ebay) with MIX VM inkset in a
CIS. First,it worked fine, but soon I started to realize that the steps I
printed looked not completely linear. Then, I tried to print test steps for
Paul, and suddenly, I started to realize that some inks were missing. When I
print the nozzle check, yellow and Photo cyan ink is missing. Sometimes,
cleaning the nozzles help, and all nozzles are there, but soon (a few printed
lines later), these two colors fade and are away. Sometimes, cleaning does not
help, but after waiting some time without cleaning, some nozzles print again,
but fade soon. Has anybody experienced something?

Thanks a lot,
Ernst

One thing that comes to mind is that some of the ink bottles may not
be vented to atmosphere and you are getting a vacuum after a couple
of printouts. check the hole in the top of the bottle and make sure
they are all clear.

the other thing is that these systems are very sensitive to proper
filling on the initial setup. when properly filled you have to let
them rest overnight before using so that any air in the sponge
dissipates. did you follow the filling instructions TO THE LETTER?
you can't improvise or second guess the instructions. also, you
cannot let this system get dry. i try to remember to print something
every day even if it is only a purge pattern.

i have been using the MIS cis system with good results on the same
printer.

Did you test the printer with Epson inks?

Knock on wood, my system is very clog free, but some people, especially the
large format printers, swear by humidifiers for keeping the heads from
drying out. Some put an open bucket of water near their printer and drape a
plastic drop cloth over both, creating a closed humid environment, when the
printer is not being used.
