My new website...

My new website...

2007-02-01 by sagaface

Hi everyone,

I finally created a website...what an endeavor, yikes! And since I have found so much
invaluable help here, I thought I'd share it.

Thanks to all of you!

hello sarah,

that's a wonderful website. i think it's visually uncluttered or not distracting, and it's
pleasing to my eyes. which is important because you don't want the look of the website to
take center stage. after all, it's your work you are showcasing. everything is working
together.

anyway, i'm enjoying your collection. i think it's quite engaging. most of your photos seem
to draw me into their story. i usually enjoy compositions with deep shadows because they
seem to add some mystery to the subject. i think subjects that are partially "draped" in
shadows seem to stir the viewer's mind to imagine -- to fill in the blanks to finish the
story or to create one.

i enjoy studying other photographers' works. i think it's a wonderful way to learn new
styles, techniques, and variations.

dan

Sarah,
I am viewing your website on my calibrated laptop and trying to type. LOL (Keys are too small!) Just writing to say I don't find the photos too dark. In fact, much of what I see posted in black and white on the Internet is often too gray overall and flat! If you study the prints of the great ones, Eugene Smith, Sally Mann and others. Their prints would seem too dark but they attempt to create a mood.:-) Nice work..

Images loked great to me. The one I downloaded to Photoshop, 8380,
indicated it was in grayscale with 10% Dot Gain.

Sarah - Remarkable, original work. What a pleasure to see your stuff.

Sarah,
there is a preponderance of unoriginal work online - well executed but bland landscapes for example.

But you have an original voice - your work tells a story, which is something which most of the stuff online fails to do.

Some I would like as prints on my wall. (What size are you printing them?)

Keep up the good work,
Richard

Online newsletter with paper-related info

2007-02-02 by Andrew Darlow

Hello:

I recently wrote a newsletter that contains some tips for printing on
a few of the fiber-based semi-gloss and gloss papers on the market.
Though I didn't mention it in the newsletter, I really like the
Hahnemühle Museum Etching 350gsm . It has a great feel to it and
holds ink beautifully (also, there are no OBA's). I primarily tested
it on the HP Designjet Z3100. I also soaked some papers under warm
water and they held up very well.

Here is a direct link to the newsletter: <http://www.andrewdarlow.com/

All the best,

Sarah: as far as my PowerBook goes (tweaked and set at 1.8), the images
look, subjectively, just fine to me. And the content is wonderful.

The site is elegantly simple without being threadbare (something I'm
wishing to attempt with my upcoming site), and the emphasis is where it
should beon the photographs, not the site itself. Very well done.

Sarah, that was meant as a compliment, not a sale inquiry - apologies,

Great work.

Can someone post the link to Sarah's website please? I have cottoned
onto this thread a bit late! (no pun intended).

Paul.
