Michael, you ARE using one of Paul's curves and converting to RGB before
printing, right? :)

Mike! Soon as I saw your post I loaded up some EFAS IN MY 7000. I have the
Standard hextone inks with the addition of the VM-4 -k Black. I had printed
this sheet last week without noticing the any mottle. I did a full 21x30in
image mainly just too see if I liked the image big and I did a second 16x20
of a different landscape image. Although I wasn't using any sep curves at the
time the only warnings I got from this paper were that the Blacks were
blocking up between 90-100% A transfer function adjustment fixed that. The
21x30 image ran unattended and I didn't check it till a couple hours later.
Tonight I printed two photographs with a 21 step pasted to the bottom of the
page.
I was horrified initially as the mottled look you described was showing its
ugly face. Immediately I printed a second one using the glossy media
selection which I know puts down less ink! Any way Its 45min later and the
first print has dried down to an acceptable level.(much, much improved
anyway) Two other prints I've made are drying down now. The one with less ink
laid down is still mottled maybe even more so than the first one. Looks like
this paper needs at least an Hour to dry down. Let me know how yours is
looking.
For a thick sheet in comparison the Eclipse Velvet looks a lot nicer
in(tone) and less fussy but it looks like the EFAS is not a complete waste.

I printed the EFAS with Cones Piezography inks and the 7000 RIP.
There is no mottling so I suspect that a curve adjustement will do
it. The image I printed last night on EFAS still shows the mottling
this morning.

On another note. Paul and I finished the warm curve for the MIS Vari-
Tones on the 7000. I wanted to test it out and see what it looked
like on some other papers. I have approximately 5 sheets of Extreme
Gamut Satine (Bright White) left over. I have not bought anymore
since it did not print well with the Piezography inks. Besides I
think they discontinued it. I was very surprised when the print was
done. It looked wonderful. The weak blacks has nice density and the
midtones were very smooth.

My only paper is ESFA in sheet weight. But I print with the MIS
lightfast dyes, using a custom profile. I have seen this mottling
before to some degree. I generally always wait a couple of hours
now before really passing judgement on a print. At 1440, you can
really feel the moisture of the ink on the surface of the paper
when it pops out of the printer.

My MediaType setting with this paper on my 7000 is "Photo
Paper" @ 1440 with HiSpeed off.

Also, if anyone orders a custom ICC profile, I'd also suggest
printing out the chips, then letting them dry overnight before
sending them out for a reading. I didn't do that initially, but now
after some experience, I wish I had.
