BW workflow - input please

BW workflow - input please

2007-03-11 by pglombick

I am using PS CS2 on Windows XP and a Epson R2400 and K3 inks. I
can't afford additional equipment right now for profiling or
calibrating, so I just use the built-in Adobe profiling utility and
will have to make do for now.

I am looking for advice on which setting to use in PS CS2 to get the
best chance of WSIWG or something relatively close. I am a complete
printing neophyte, so any input would be appreciated.

Specifically, I am not sure whether to select no color management or
let PS determine colors and whether to select a canned profile for
the ink/paper combo I am using, and if so where to select it (while
wokring up the image) or during the printing. Also, I don't know
whether to select dot gain 30 or gamma 1.8 or 2.2. Using 2.2, things
seem a bit dark with blocked up shadows.

Any additional prining tips or advice you can add would be
appreciated.

Strangely, using Piezo K7 inks, Quadtone RIP, and the canned
profiles, I get very good results everytime, but I have had very bad
clogging issues and the cost of running endless cleaning cycles have
led me to try the K3 inks. Also, it would be nice to print glossy
sometimes.

Thank you.

Please see article #9 at the link below. It has a detailed outline
for a simple workflow for the 2400, including all settings.

I just received the R2400 two days ago and have put it through the paces. What a joy this
printer is! I've found that it's essentially "Plug 'N Play". It will work with a wide range of
paper (not just Epson's) with very minor tweaking.

I'll also say that Clayton's website is very comprehensive, informative and easy to
understand. Use his site as a guide to get you pointed in the right direction and your
printing life will be very rewarding!
