[Digital BW] Imacon listserv?

[Digital BW] Imacon listserv?

2002-01-26 by Peter Lindman

I'd be interested in finding the Imacon scan list if anyone knows where
to find it. I couldn't find a useful link searching for it.
Thanks
Peter Lindman

Peter,

I also posted a long response to the start of this thread, but it's
somewhere lost in space. It'll probably show up in a week or so.

Thanks Mark,
The ad agency where I work is likely going to purchase an Imacon 848 and
bring all our scanning inhouse. We tried one out for a couple of weeks
and I was impressed with the results\ufffdthough there were issues that I was
interested in pursuing with real-world users.
Thanks for the quick response,
Peter

I think Jeff Schewe in Chicago has taken delivery on an 848.
Look back through the archives on that list. AndrewR was raving
about the speed of it, which definitely got my attention, because
it's not Imacon's high point. Also Gerry Yeager is a wealth of
information too.

The 848 is reported to be FIVE times faster than the PIII or Photo.
(...schwing!....)

Just remember though that all three have some degree of
connection to Imacon though. Although I've found them to be very
straightforward in their answers.

It was unbelievably fast (especially compared to the Nikon 8000 I have
at home). And Flexcolor 3.1 seems very easy to use even though I am not
a very experienced scanner operator. I was getting pretty remarkable
results from color negs (which we are going to have to coax out of the
photographers shooting for the agency) using the canned profiles and a
minimum of tweaking. The vendors we use currently drum scan everything,
and the 848 results were clearly superior to what we had been receiving
from them (whether the fault of the scanner or the operator, I don't
know). Film grain was cleaner and sharper, tonal range was smoother and
with fewer unpleasant color breaks--all whether from negs or prints.
OK\ufffdI'll take this over to the other list. Thanks again Mark.

http://www.imacon.dk/

I think it's about $14k; in that neighborhood. The others have
dropped in price; I think the Photo is only about $4995 now at
B&H.

Peter,

take a look at a review of the 848 at:
http://www.imaginginsider.com/

Antonis

<and consider that a used Howtek drum scanner can be found for similar
prices>

I don't know about Imacon specific but there is a Hi-End scanners list
on Yahoo.
