Digital BW, The Print

Has anyone scanned 3800 "B&W" print output to see if Epson has been able to
cut back on the driver's use of color inks? 

My ideal driver would merge RGB and ABW and use the least amount of color
inks.

The 1600 dpi scan there was of an ABW mode print on Photo Rag.  The ABW was
set to "neutral."  Small sections of the 5% and 10% patches of a 21-step
test strip are shown in the scan.

 

I'm just wondering if Epson is moving to a B&W mode that uses less color
ink.  Ideally, I think the ABW mode and RGB modes should be the same, and
both should, in my view, use the absolute minimum of color ink needed to
achieve the tone that is called for.  The current k3 drivers don't do that.
It's my hope that they evolve in that direction, however.  So, I'm wondering
if in the 3800 there is any indication of such movement.

Hi Paul,
I jsut scanned a wedge using ABW neutral setting.  It looks pretty 
similiar to what you have posted.  No evidence Epson is using less 
color in ABW.
