acidic paper

Does anyone know why Epson uses both acidic paper and acidic coating for its Archival Matte / Enhance Matte / Ultra Premium Matte paper? They keep changing the name, but as far as I can tell the paper itself has remained unchanged since they eliminated identifying watermark (?) on the back with the first name change. Even the perfectly ordinary "Xerox" paper I use for printing text in my Laserjet tests out as non-acidic with a ph-testing pencil. Can it really be that much more costly for Epson to use an "acid free" base, especially when it would give them the advertising advantage of "New! Acid Free!" ?? I find this extremely annoying since I like the paper and it is probably more widely available than any other good quality matte photo inkjet paper. Myron
