A cooler/whiter "Natural" paper?

A cooler/whiter "Natural" paper?

2007-05-02 by michael3442

(Plucked from another post where it was mis-posted)
I'm currently using PremierArt's MatteBW 210 gsm as my proof paper
(actually my "learning" paper - which I cut into 1/4s per Clayton's
suggestion) and love just about everything about it. Since I'm still
easing into this digital printing endeavor, I've not yet settled on
exhibition papers (although MatteBW will be one) and am now wanting to
find a paper that's a little warmer, but not a full "Natural" warmth.
Someplace inbetween is what I'm looking for and it has to be acid &
lignin free. Some suggestons for a not too warm paper? Thanks.

HI Michael
Here are a couple acid/lignin free options to look at:
Premier Smooth Hot Press, is the cotton version of the
Matte BW. It comes in brightened and non-brightened
versions. I use it a lot.
Also look at Moab Entrada, its very similar to Premier
although I prefer the Premier.
In the more expensive zone you have Hannemuhle Museum
Ethching which is a little more textured, my fave for
B/W. William Turner by Hann. is great too, but even
more textured and a bit fragile-I love it too.
I haven't used the following but they have their
followers: Crane Museo 2, Crane Museo Max.
so there is a start at least

PhotoRag and VFA are two very fine and popular papers that are
slightly cream colored, while still very bright (they have OBAs).
They also render the K inks moderately warm compared to MatteBW.
There are also many other papers with similar qualities. In fact,
this moderately warm is the broadest category of paper. Seems to me
of all the matte papers available, the BW papers are the minority,
followed by the "natural" versions on the warm side. So just about
anything that doesn't have "BW" or "Natural" in the name will do. I
mentioned VFA and PR because they have the best dmax and are among the
most popular.

Please see article #5 "The Great Paper chase" at the link below. It
describes about 25 different matte papers and lists the important
attributes.

Clayton
