Piezo NK7 inks and R300

Piezo NK7 inks and R300

2007-05-09 by pglombick

I pretty happy with my R2400 and K3 ink set-up (less clogs, more
prints), but I can't achieve the same beautiful look that I can get
using Piezo K7 inks with Hahnemuehle Museum Etching paper. I tried
Museum Etching in my R2400 K3 set-up and the results were just awful.
For the R2400, I use Velvet Fine Art or, more frequently, Silver Rag.

I have an Epson R300 sitting around, and now that they make Piezo NK6
(?) inks for the R300, I was wondering if anyone has tried them. As I
suppose there would be one less shade of grey and the R300 is not the
same quality machine, I wonder how te results would look. Also, I
wonder if clogging might be an issue, as it was in my R2400 with the
NK7 inks. But it would be nice to have the option of printing up to
8" by 12" on Museum Etching to achieve that unique Piezo look while
still having my R2400 K3 set-up and not having to switch carts and
constantly run cleaning cycles. I had some problems with switching
out carts, including horrid clogging and ink leaks, plus the added
waste. It was frustrating, costly, and not very effective.

Anyone using Piezo inks in their R300?

Thank you,

Paul

I have to say that I'm surprised you suffered from clogging with the K7
inks. I've been running them in an R800 since they first became available
for the printer with no clogs at all, even after lengthy idle periods.
Perhaps it was to do with switching between the K3 and K7 inks? I've not
tried the K6 in an R300 but do use them in an old 1270, again without clogs,
so they should work well in the R300 unless I have just been particularly
lucky.
