RC Papers and Curling
2007-07-06 by robert49brake
Following the recent posts on luster papers. Any one have any reports of curling (on the narrow bias as opposed to roll curling) on the various RC papers. I use a pair of R220s and have varying degrees of problems with curling on the short bias and the printhead catching the final corners near the end of the prints. Epson PG is fine, Crane silver rag is acceptable with a slight bending back of the corners before feeding. Ilford S Pearl is terrible with a 50% failure rate even with severe bending back. With the Ilford I can only print 5x7s successfully by centering on 8.5x11 paper and I have a couple of 8x10 runs I need to do. I need a pearl coating to finish a B&W restoration project and I'd like a luster finish for some color work and as a possible alternative sometimes to silver rag (i'm looking for a surface smoother than silver rag) With the luster finish I'll accept low OBAs and minimal acid but I'm leery of ordering a whole box and then finding the curling problem makes it unusable. Thanks in advance.
