Recommendations for BO

Recommendations for BO

2007-11-23 by Drew Tait

Hi All,

I want to do BO printing and the supply of R220/R230's is drying/has
dried up. What attracts me is the look (I have some of Clayton's sample
prints - nice), the reduced cost and the simplicity of no special
requirements like RIPs, ICCs etc. To complicate things I run Linux.

What alternatives printers should be considered in the Letter/A4
category which will accept Eboni Black and print BO with comparable
results? Do any other manufacturer's printers do the job?

If there are none then what other options do I have - K3 style printing.

Thanks,

 D r e w

If you can get a cart for it, the R260 does excellent black only with Eboni.
It does require the use of QTR for the BO. The color would then be straight
Epson driver with either OEM or MIS color inks. See

Hello Drew,

Paul is right. QTR is the way to go with the R260 in BO mode.

I have two R260. One has MIS Ebony in the K position and MIS cleaning
fluid in the other carts.

With this setup, BO in Photo RPM mode with the Epson driver produces
almost blank midtones and if you print BO in Text mode (Paper = Bright
White Paper and Print Quality = Fine) you'll get a very nice print
with lots of banding.

Until the banding issue is solved with the Epson driver(if ever), go
with QTR in BO mode with QTR using Paul's ICC'S and curve adjustments.

Oh, and btw, thank you Paul for the R260 support.

Cheers,
Andre
