Printer dropping ink

Printer dropping ink

2007-12-03 by Richard Smallfield

Hello,
my Epson 2100 has started dropping black ink on my prints.

I tried pushing the cartridge change button, pulling out the plug and running the heads over a paper towel.

Quite a lot of ink came off but it's still doing it.

Any ideas anyone please????

thanks,
Richard

Most likely, drips are a result of some schmutz (technical term) on the head
like paper "lint." Ink will accumulate until it drips. Try the paper towel
thing again with a little pure Windex. Also, try moving the head slowly and
carefully over the folded paper towel or, better yet, a lint-free "cloth"
like a PEC pad. IMHO, and someone else "here" who's far more knowledgeable
than I am probably knows why, but sometimes the drip occurs well away from
the nozzle. How the ink gets there, I don't know!

"dropping ink"...do you mean actual drops in the
middle of prints or are you talking about ink near the
leading edge ...like 1/2" in?

I found the latter has to do with the curvature of
heavy paper ...for example, Entrada 300gsm benefits by
being flexed back and forth a bit before insertion, to
break its inherent tendencies (rear loading).

Hi John,
the drips were in the sky of an image - not outside the image boundaries.

Weird, I just have been having this problem today also on my R2400.
Happened once before a year or so ago as well. Both times a cleaning
cycle seemed to do the trick and the drips were gone. Mine today were
magenta. Drips were always in the picture area. One cleaning cycle and
no more drips. I suspect the dripping ink was cleaned off as the head
travelled to the sponge area, but I am just guessing. Of course it is
very disconcerting when this happens. Problem is gone now for me.

Try a cleaning cycle and Good luck.

Hi,
I cleaned the heads with a lint-free cloth soaked in window cleaner. That fixed the ink drops but my resulting print had banding ... so more materials wasted. A cleaning cycle and all was well.

Thanks for your input you guys,
Richard
