Richard Wolfson

2007-12-21 by CDTobie@aol.com

Photographer and fine art printer Richard Wolfson died of brain cancer
Thursday, December 20, 2007. Richard was known for his black and white landscape
photography, as well as his environmental portraiture. He was also involved in
the technical side of photography, developing black and white inkjet inksets for
MediaStreet and consulting for other companies in the industry. While much of
Richard's work was large format film, he made the move to digital capture in
the last few years, with the acquisition of a Canon 1DS Mark 2 full frame
digital SLR, which he used with his long-time collection of Canon prime lenses.

Richard continued to shoot long after his initial diagnosis, and produced a
limited edition art book of black and white environmental portraits of other
cancer patients and their doctors during his treatment. Those of us who knew
Richard personally will miss his compassion and wit, but most of all his
penetrating perception into photography and printing.

Thanks David,

He sure was a sweet person. I've had numerous email conversations with
him over the last couple of years and he was always there to help in
anyway he could. He was one of the good ones. I suggest anyone who
hasn't seen his last series of portraits to go online and see them. I
moved on as a class act.

I posted this to the Mac list before seeing it here, and this is the
more apropriate forum.
I had no idea Richard was ill. I remember Richard as far back as the
Leben list, someone with whom I exchanged email and phone
conversations, and a true talented black and white enthusiast and
craftsperson who cared about maintaining the high bar and making a
contribution.
I'm sorry to hear of this.

I remember him, too, and although I never spoke with him on the
phone, I also had some e mail exchanges with him, and admired the
images of his I saw on the web. I am also saddened to hear of his
passing.

Richard was a very open and helpful contributor to our craft. I had several
email conversations with him while considering using the Mediastreet GQ2
inkset in one of my 4000's. He was most generous with his advice and I had looked
forward to meeting him. His work is a significant contribution to both the
craft of photography and the quality levels we can now add to our wokflows
through his talent and efforts.
