You can get all kinds of manuals in pdf format on the www.epson.com website. Just nose around in the support & download sections.

Yell, if you can't find it.

Cheers,

You won't find a service manual on Epson's website. But you will find it
here:

http://www.macusers.com/EpsonStuff/

It is close to 200 pages in length.

I believe this manual can only be purchased. I bought mine through an Epson
parts seller. It was something like $35, and WELL worth it.

If you DO know a URL for ANY Epson service manuals in PDF format, PLEASE
post that URL.

Thanks a bunch for that. I'm about to buy a used 3000 and use it with
Piezo. Trying to get a jump on "the problems" and woke up thinking:
wouldn't be great if there were the computer hardware equivalent of
Chilton's...And there it is!!!

Diana,

I am going to guess that the manuals are copyrighted (and it in fact is, it
was published in 1997, and has an inherent copyright, and has a copyright
notice on p. II). Given that, I doubt this web site has permission to scan
in and post a copyrighted manual, and it is therefore illegal. If you (or
anyone else) personally don't like it if someone steals your work (or your
horse for that matter) and just gives it away, I suggest you (and others)
not do the same and not promote the distribution of copyrighted articles as
well.

I am not making any accusations. If you find out that this web site DOES
have permission to distribute this manual, I would like to know. I did
email the person listed on that web page and asked if he had
permission...we'll see if s/he responds.

What is this, a sting operation? Are you undercover? ;-)

Hi Todd,

No, of course not...except when I'm sleeping! I just find it hypocritical
for me to just sit back and see someone not pay for copyrighted material,
when I, my self, don't want others to "do that" to my material.

You are correct that the 3000 service manual is available for purchase
(although I had no luck actually purchasing one from National Parts Depot,
but that is another story).

BUT the other manuals offered on that site (and by many other people) are
not available for purchase from Epson or anyone else (someone please correct
me if I am wrong). And as an previous owner of a 7000, currently owner of
two 3000's and two 9xxx printers and possibly a 10000 soon, I have found
these service manuals (not user manual, actual service manuals) to be
invaluable. My personal belief is these manuals should be available to the
owners of these printers. The information included in them is essential for
the proper preventive maintenance and operation of these printers.

That's where I bought mine from!

Yes, they are...but does that give anyone the right to take them in
violation of copyright laws? I'd like your horse, and I would find it in
valuable, does that give me the right to just take it, without your
permission?

> My personal belief is these manuals should be available to the

That's not for you to decide. My believe is your horse should be available
for all to use.

Yes it is, but as I said, it's not for you to decide, since you don't own
the copyrights to them!

Why is this so hard to understand?

You're absolutely right.
I won't offer my assistance to anyone, anymore.
And I will lock my horse up in the barn and no one else may ever see or
touch him except me, because he is mine.

Diana, taking her ball, her horse, her manuals and going home to ride my
horse and fix my printers.

Diana is the Harriett Beecher Stowe of the modern age! And I
applaud her.

My point is that all this should stay in the "Underground
Railroad", rather than out in public on page one of the Times.

Think CIA. Think covert action. Think "under the radar".

Hi Diana,

> I won't offer my assistance to anyone, anymore.

I certainly didn't ask for that! Your intentions weren't ever in question,
and I am sure your assistance is always greatly appreciated.

> And I will lock my horse up in the barn and no one else may ever see or

Certainly your prerogative, as it is your horse!

> Diana, taking her ball, her horse, her manuals and going home to ride my

If you ride your horse while fixing your printer, I, for one, would
appreciate it if you would take some pictures (at the same time) and post
them for us to see ;-)

In all seriousness, if you really want to make a difference about this
issue, contact Epson, and ask them for permission to do so. That would be a
great service to all, especially if they say "OK". I don't believe they
really make any money on the manuals, since they are only $35, and I doubt
they sell many...and it is, in my opinion, a good thing for users to be more
educated about their printers (which is why I always buy the service manuals
for all equipment that service manuals are available for, and they are
typically very inexpensive)...it may even save them warranty repair
costs...so my point is, they very well may be happy to see someone post them
on the web! You'll never know unless you ask.
